After purchasing a home, the owners settled on a furniture style: solid wood with a contemporary design.
Our house is old, ceiling is only 8′ high, much lower than new houses, this highly restricted window size, so the room is not extremely bright, since both of us enjoy the bright sunshine and we don’t have enough money to enlarge the windows, we decided to change old oak floor to lighter color wood, like maple or bamboo.
To contrast with the light floors, the living room and kitchen furniture uses dark walnut, while the bedrooms feature warm-toned wood. Cherry was the first choice for the bedroom.
The bed was designed in a contemporary style. However, the lumber choice changed from cherry to African mahogany after discovering that cherry had become unreasonably expensive that year, while African mahogany was available for as little as $5 per board foot.
African mahogany is an exceptional wood with a warm, rich colour, easy workability, beautiful grain patterns, and a fluorescent glow under a high-gloss finish.
Note that the budget was limited, so I just use the old bed’s head board…….
