A contemporary queen bed built in African mahogany, part 1 of the project.
The owners settled on solid wood furniture in a contemporary style, with warm-toned wood for the bedroom. Cherry was the first choice, but cherry had become unreasonably expensive that year, while African mahogany was available for as little as $5 per board foot. Mahogany turned out to be an exceptional wood: warm rich color, easy workability and a beautiful grain. To keep the budget, the old bed’s headboard was reused.
