After I bought my own house, my wife and I thought a lot about our furniture style. Finally we have an agreement: basically solid wood comtenporary style!
Our house is old, ceiling is only 8′ high, much lower than new houses, this highly ristricted window size, so the room is not extremely bright, since both of us enjoy the bright sunshine and we don’t have enough money to enlarge the windows, we dicide to use change old oak floor to lighter color wood, like maple or bamboo.
To make contract to the floor, living room and kitchen furniture will use dark color wood, currently we choose walnut, the bedrooms will have warm color, cherry was my first choice.
So I designed the bed, really contemporary, then I went to lumber yard to get my cherries. But the lumber choice changed into african mahagony as soon as I found cherry become unreasonable expensive this year and african mahagony become as cheap as $5 per board foot!
African mahagony is one of my faverate wood, it have warm royal color, easy to shape, beautifull grain patten and fluorescent shining after high gloss finish!
When you look at the picture, please ignore the head board, for I run out of budget, so I just use the old bed’s head board…….
